THE RED GUM TREE

The red gum tree gets its name from the color of its trunk. A whitish, aromatic resin oozes from its bark after an incision. It is traditionally used as a poultice covered with cotton wool to soothe dislocations. This popular Caribbean preparation, dating back to the 19th century, is known as "siwan."

The red gum tree has many beneficial properties thanks to the active ingredients present in the essential oil and resin of the tree.

CARPENTER'S GRASS

Justicia pectoralis, called "Carpenter's Herb", is a herbaceous plant that was traditionally found around the workshops of carpenters who used it for its healing properties.
